Kris Metter was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Los Angeles, California. After graduation from high school she attended California State University at Northridge and Santa Barbara City College. She has been married since 1970 and has two daughters.
Kris was raised in the insurance industry. During school, she worked for her father, a State Farm agent in California. In 1971 she re‑entered the insurance industry to work for a Managing General Agent specializing in target‑risk PAF's.
In 1979, she and her family moved from Los Angeles to Seattle, where she took a position with F.B. Beattie & Co. as an aviation underwriting assistant. She progressed to managing the entire aviation department where she underwrote and brokered a book of business that averaged between $1.5 and $4 million in annual premium. Approximately 90% of that business was in Alaska, with a major share being placed in a Lloyd's binding facility.
Kris joined the LAU team in October, 1993. She has been a licensed Surplus Lines Broker in both Washington and Alaska for several years as well as a retail broker in over 20 states.
